This enlargement is from the "Morrigu" piece, I often make overlapping mythological and archetypal connections within my work and this one is a perfect example. I call this detail piece "Inaana's Dream" based on the Sumerian goddess of that name. To me she represents a shamanistic vision quest to the underworld which is symbolism I relate to the subconscious or Absu as I like to call it, Inaana's
decent is a well known mythological theme and even though the Morrigu was a Celtic goddess I have made connections and parallels over many years of interpreting and exploring the archetypes. essentially the two represent Initiation or self initiation, the willingness to undergo change and to be shaken from within.

"Nachash Sephirot" (roughly I suppose it means The Serpent Sephirot "Tree of Life") It was almost like being in a meditative state when I created this, partly intuition and partly visualization. I found myself being drawn towards the Sephirot and other Kabbalistic and Gnostic influences so I began focusing on the serpent and tree of life symbolism. Personally I feel there is a definite Kundalini vibe throughout this piece and it was an exercise I hope to expand on. Perhaps creating these mandala like images can definitely help one achieve some sort of insight since I find that it could aid in meditative visualizations as a sort of gateway to get your mind warmed up. This could be useful for those who find it difficult to visualize within their mind, it could simply be an aid to help one focus ones inner sight. the Script is an original alphabet I began to develop some years ago after finding myself deviating and modifying the popular occult alphabet called
"Theban". after many years of using  Theban I decided to develop my own unique alphabet with a definite Tolkien and Enochian Influence.  In trying to achieve a more calligraphic and fluid style I experimented extensively writing the symbols by hand.

Over a decade ago I suppose is when began to design sigils and with more of a traditional design, I had researched and became somewhat adept at making sigils that were very precise and purposeful but as I have grown older I have begun to take a more intuitive or even shamanistic way of creating powerful iconography that I felt spoke to me and invoked a resonating emotion or current. This is a art in itself I believe, the art of the will. A special sort of art that adapts archetypal symbolism that is both evocative and ascetic. In an essential sense these pieces are a simple exercise in interpreting sacred geometry that vibrates within my consciousness. That visualization is eventually captured after meditating upon it and later defining it in an artistic/shamanistic means. it is my belief that in the particular time in our society and culture it is the responsibility of the true artist to act as shaman, a druid of conscious and subconscious expression and priest of the mysteries of relating archetypes in visual art, music, writing, theater or whatever creative channel available. That shamanistic role that was once so revered and honored was consonant and almost interchangeable with the "true" artist, interpretation of dreams and visions into something others could relate too and understand, manifesting inner vision into symbolism that becomes Iconography that holds access to knowledge within that symbolic design and finally the artistic vision quest that is so often a self imposed initiation. This shamanic role and archetype has been one of the most important figures in human development and self awareness, over thousands of years of human cultural and spiritual progress the shaman has been a present and constant force till this current age. This is one of the poisoned roots to our problems, we have lost who we were and our connection to what is really moving inside our souls, we have lost our true relationship with the natural and supernatural world and we have lost something so very great. The descendant of Prometheus is the shaman the descendant of the shaman, the artist.

So who or what is an artist in the purest sense and what role could be fulfilled?
A "true" king cannot rule without the shaman, we have no "true" king and we have no "true" shaman.

Today's featured work is "Wodensfyr"- 2012. This is another piece that has its origins in an earlier drawing I did back in the mid 90's. The work features the classic Odin/Woden All-father archetype that I am so strongly devoted to. I chose to represent Odin's ravens Huginn (thought) and Muninn (memory/mind) as wolves to further elaborate on the shamanistic properties and symbolism that suggests a sort of shapshifting shamanistic connection with the conscious and subconscious.

"Seer" my interpretation of the Wizard / Hermit / Magician archetype, the old cliché subject in fantasy art that adorned the side of so many a 70's/80's dodge van and classic power and doom metal album covers. It is a slippery slope to tread but the subject resonates strongly with me ever since I drew the first version titled "madness" (the chaotic youth or the fool archetype) way back in high school after having warm vivid memories of a collection of childhood prints depicting dragons and wizards and the such. My late 80's version was complete with baby dragon except the wizard was young, beardless and awkward much like myself at that age. Sometime after complettion I gave that drawing away to a friend who had a fondness for it. Ever since I have wanted to recreate that atmosphere that was so prevalent in my drawings at a young age so I suppose for me it represents a type of innocence and a reflection upon the transition from youth to elder, a reoccurring archetypal theme in the Tarot. "Though chaos to order, what was once the burdens and hindrance of youth, those of mental instability and ever a looming sorrow transmutes through the fiery initiations of memory and thought. Through seasons pass till it has become like the science of consciousness, the ritual of thought."

"The Irish goddess of war, but also of fate, deciding who lives and who dies on the battlefield. Is either one of a triplet of sisters, or is the name of the triplets as a collective group; a function of the Triple Goddess in Celtic mythology." (source http://www.maryjones.us/jce/morrigan.html)
